September 25, 2006 – The Boy Next Door
“…Her wanderings brought her to Commerce Street, where she discovered a new, bright, airy hair salon…Turns out, the man doing all the trimming was none other than legendary Robert Gioria of Robert Kree on Bleecker. (He’s pruned SJP and Mariah, but who cares?) Now Gioria’s gotten back into business. Along with his team of styling superstars, he transformed the no-appointment lady into a modern-day Twiggy. (In under a half hour.) As the hair dryer whirred, she was offered a box of oven-fresh treats from the bakery next door. Sweet delivery. At last.”
February 2007 – Take Two
“Robert Gioria, hairstylist to such celebs as Mariah Carey, Kevin Spacey and Julianne Moore, is back in business with the new Robert G Salon, a sleek, airy space that opened last September in Manhattan’s West Village. Gioria, who formerly owned three Manhattan salons, parted ways with the beauty industry in 2001, but decided to return to working behind the chair when he was drawn in by a vacant storefront on Commerce Street. The salon offers cuts, color, highlights, updos, perms, relaxers, Japanese straightening, extensions and makeup application. Guests are treated to Pellegrino, red or white wine and oven-fresh cookies.”
March 2007 - Allure
“Because we wear our hair long and straight, cuts rarely offer any surprises. We gave Gioria our typical cursory instructions (“Oh, you know, about an inch off, long layers…whatever”), and found ourselves sucked in to a fascinating conversation. Forty minutes later, we were shocked to find that he had chopped off at least three inches – not the kind of surprise we’d wanted. But after a few days, we were used to the more flattering length – and delighted by the unexpected.”
